Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 Round Out Anthropic's 5.5 Family

Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5 Expand Anthropic's September Lineup
Hot on the heels of Opus 5.5, Anthropic has published system cards for two further models: Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Claude Haiku 5.5. The releases confirm that the 5.5 generation is a broader family refresh rather than a single flagship launch.
Claude Sonnet 5.5 is the more unusual of the pair. According to its system card, the model accepts text input — including transcripts produced by voice dictation — as well as images. That input mix points at conversational and field-work use cases: dictating notes, photographing a whiteboard or a form, and asking the model to reconcile the two. Voice dictation support in particular suggests Anthropic is pushing into workflows where typing is impractical.
Details on Haiku 5.5 are sparser in its published materials, though its appearance alongside Sonnet 5.5 indicates Anthropic is segmenting the 5.5 series by use case rather than simply by size. The company has not yet published full benchmark tables for either model.
The timing tracks with reports that Anthropic has been preparing multiple simultaneous releases. Since 2025 the lab has several times shipped two models in quick succession — a pattern readers will recognize from the Sonnet 5 and Opus 5 sequence earlier this year. If that pattern holds, additional 5.1-family models may follow before the end of the quarter.
For developers, the practical takeaway is that Anthropic's catalog now spans three distinct generations in production — 4.x leftovers like Haiku 4.5, the 5 series, and the new 5.1/5.5 wave — and checking the models overview page before wiring up a new build is more important than ever.
